Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
